Did I just feel an earthquake?
If you felt brief shaking, check the list above after allowing location access, or open the live globe. If you see a recent quake nearby, that is likely what you felt. USGS also collects first-hand reports through its Did You Feel It? program.
How close does an earthquake need to be to feel it?
It depends on magnitude and depth. A shallow magnitude 3 might be felt only a few kilometers away, while a magnitude 6 can be felt for hundreds of kilometers. Deeper quakes are felt over wider but weaker areas.
Why don't I see a quake I felt?
Very small or very recent earthquakes can take a few minutes to appear, and the smallest events are not always located. This check uses the USGS 24-hour feed, which favors confirmed events.
Is this an official alert system?
No. Tremor is an independent monitor built on public USGS data. For official warnings and emergency guidance, rely on your local authorities and USGS ShakeAlert where available.
